Because your filters are constantly getting “the bad stuff” out of your water, after some time they will become clogged. When the filter is new, the filter’s pressure gauge probably reads somewhere around 8 to 25 psi and water flows through it easily. As debris accumulates in the filter, the pressure rises. By the time the pressure rises by 25% over the starting pressure, water flow will be reduced and the filters can’t do as good of a job filtering; that’s when it’s time to clean out the debris that has been collected by the filter so you can catch any new debris that gets in the pool. If the filters aren’t kept clean it will result in cloudy water, poor circulation and excessive wear on the pool equipment.
Every pool is different, and how often the filters need backwashing and cleaning will depend on things like how big the pool is, how often it’s used, and how much outside plant mater and dirt gets into the pool. While some pool filters need weekly cleaning, other filters may only need cleaning once or twice a season. As part of our regular maintenance we will make sure your filters are clean and operating at an optimal level.
